Friday Update:

Race WebsiteLocal Radar  | Current Conditions | Pace Chart | Philosophy

The great news for this race is that the temperature forecast has gone down with starting temperatures in the mid 50s but afternoon highs now only in the upper 70s instead of lower 80s. It will get a little warm by the end of the race with temperatures in the mid 70s, but with dew points in the 40s there will at least be low levels of humidity so it won’t feel quite as hot. At least these are conditions many of you have trained in over the past couple months now. Don’t worry all of you Boston runners, it will be nothing like it!

Recommendations:

I would go with shorts and a t-shirt for this race. Be sure to wear some suntan lotion as well as your body glide. A hat and sunglasses may also be good to have.

Friday Update:

Race WebsiteLocal Radar  | Current Conditions | Pace Chart | Philosophy

There have been little changes to the forecast with high pressure still the dominating weather factor. This will lead to mostly sunny skies and light winds. Temperatures will be on the warm side, starting out in the lower 60s and moving into the 70s just after 10am. Highs should reach the lower 80s by the afternoon. The good part is that the dew points (level of moisture in the air) will be low, so humidity values will be quite low leading to more comfortable race conditions.

Recommendations:

I would go with shorts and a t-shirt for this race. Be sure to wear some suntan lotion as well as your body glide. A hat and sunglasses may also be good to have.

High pressure will make for beautiful weather for the start of the race. It will be on the chilly side with lows in the low to mid 40s but light winds and clear skies will make for a beautiful sunrise in the mountains. Temperatures will be comfortable by the afternoon with highs only in the low to mid 70s. Dew points will be even better as they comfortably sit in the 40s.

Temperatures will fall back into the lower 50s and possibly upper 40s Saturday night before rebounding back into the mid 70s on Sunday. Dew points will be back in the low to mid 50s on Sunday but that shouldn’t affect much of anything as it will still be comfortable. There is also a slight chance for a shower through the afternoon hours on Sunday but I think they will be very isolated in nature so shouldn’t be a big concern.

Recommendations:

I’ve never done a 100 miler before but I am pretty sure you’d go through a couple pairs of shoes and socks and definitely a few changes of shirts and shorts (at least for the sake of the volunteers!) I don’t know if there is enough body glide in the world for me to ever do something like that as I wasn’t a huge fan of the 30 miler I raced in! Good luck, weather looks perfect.

2012 Fort Richie Duathlon weather forecast

Friday Update:

Race WebsiteLocal Radar  | Current Conditions | Pace Chart | Philosophy

Tomorrow looks great for the duathlon with sunny skies, light winds and mild temperatures. For the start, temps should be right around the 50 degree mark, moving into the 60s in the 9 o’clock hour. Highs should move into the mid 70s by the afternoon. Low humidity will be nice and the full sunshine will make it feel a little warmer than it really is so it should be a comfortable and fast race!

Recommendations:

Even with the chilly temperatures, I’d go with tri shorts and a long sleeve for the bike portion of the race and a t-shirt for the run. You may be able to get away with a t-shirt for the bike as well.

High pressure will be the dominating weather factor today through Sunday. We’ll still have some breezy winds this afternoon but they will diminish tonight and will be light for the start of the race tomorrow. Temperatures will start off in the low to mid 50s, so will be cool for the swim but should warm into the 60s by 8 or 8:30am. Dew points will be low so there will be very little humidity and highs should top out in the 70s by the afternoon hours. Water temperatures will only be around the lower 60s.

Recommendations:

With water temps in the 60s a wetsuit is definitely legal and recommended. Otherwise trishorts and a t-shirt should be good for the rest of the race. It may be a little chilly on the bike but if you push it hard enough you’ll be warm either way! With full sunshine and light winds it will actually feel a little bit warmer. Good luck!

2012 9 hours of Cranky Monkey Mountain Bike weather forecast

Saturday, May 5 – 11:00am-8:00pm

Rocky Gap State Park

Partly Sunny, Showers and T-Storms Possible

High: 80      Low: 60

6AM 8AM 10AM NOON 2PM
60 65 71 75 80

Friday Update:

Race WebsiteLocal Radar  | Current Conditions | Pace Chart | Philosophy

A cold front will push through the area today and will continue to affect the region tomorrow as it washes up across the region. There is a slight chance for a shower or stray storm during the day tomorrow but otherwise expect partly cloudy and warm conditions with highs around 80 degrees. Temperatures should hang around 80 from 2pm through 5pm before they fall back into the 70s. Winds will be relatively light and dew points may decrease in the afternoon which would help lower the humidity towards the end of the race. Good luck and be safe out there if a storm develops!

Lightning killed a cyclist last year and many others camping or around a river or lake so be sure to be safe out there.

Recommendations:

I would go with shorts and a t-shirt but I’m also not a cyclist. I imagine you would know what to wear on this one more than myself… You may also want to wear some suntan lotion as you’ll be outside all day.
